ATH 129 Swimming: Beginning II

This class is for non-swimmers. In this class you will learn how to relax in the water, breath effectively, float and tread, swim 3 different strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke), jump in the water from the deck, use swimming equipment (kickboards, pull buoys, fins) and swim across a 25 yard pool. If you have fear or anxiety in the water, consider taking the Confidence in Water class.

Prerequisites

Non-swimmer, unable to swim across a 25 yard pool.

Test Out

Are you unsure of which swim class to take for your current skill level? Schedule a swimming test out at the Avery Recreation Pool to be evaluated. To schedule a time email Michelle Gable (michelle.gable@stanford.edu)

Goals

Learn to be safe and relaxed in shallow and deep water. Develop ease and efficiency with breathing & swimming strokes. Be safe and comfortable swimming 25 yards continuously.

Tues/Thurs 12:15 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

*Stanford students, Faculty/Staff and Stanford Community are eligible to participate in Recreation Classes. Stanford Community members are Dependents 18 and older, Spouses, Hospital Employees who have purchased an Athletic Access Card, Retirees, or Partners of a Student, Faculty or Staff.

**BeWell note: To be eligible for the BeWell $30 rate, benefits-eligible employees must complete the Stanford Health and Lifestyle Assessment (SHALA) in 2014. If you have specific questions about the BeWell program or want to participate please go to bewell.stanford.edu. As a BeWell eligible employee, please note you are eligible for 2 classes per quarter at the BeWell $30 rate.

This class requires a minimum of 6 participants.
